The Moody Cow
The Moody Cow restaurant and pub
About three miles outside Ross at Upton Bishop, the Moody Cow pub is another firm local favourite. A converted farmhouse - with the restaurant in a barn conversion - the pub sells home cooked food and a wide range of local ales from the Wye Valley Brewery.
Beers being sold to a loyal local clientele include Dorothy Goodbody Golden Ale, Wye Valley Bitter and Hereford Pale Ale. ‘We're mainly about diners, although the drinking trade is picking up at the moment,' says manager Becky Tisdall. ‘Most of our customers are regulars who come time and again.'
‘We always try and source our food locally wherever possible,' she says. ‘Our owners are Welsh so we always have a lot of Welsh produce on the menu. Our speciality is the Moody Cow Pie, a steak and mushroom pie that's been made to the same recipe for the last 15 years. It's always been on the menu - we've never stopped doing it, throughout all the owners we've had. It's just too popular.'
